DichThat

Privacy

DichThat is designed to translate the text you choose without building a history of what you read or write.

Last updated: August 28, 2026

Selected text

When you invoke DichThat, the app first tries to read the current selection through macOS Accessibility. If that is unavailable, it may briefly use the clipboard and then restore it using a guarded transaction.

On-device translation

English–Vietnamese translation is processed on your Mac with Apple Translation. Its language models are supplied and managed by macOS. DichThat does not send translation text to a DichThat server.

Word details and pronunciation

Meanings, examples, parts of speech, synonyms, and US pronunciation data come from the offline dictionary bundled with DichThat. Words are not sent to an online dictionary service. Pronunciation playback uses voices installed on macOS.

Storage and retention

DichThat does not save translation history, selected text, or clipboard contents. Text remains in memory only as needed to perform and display the current translation. The app stores preferences such as your keyboard shortcut and launch-at-login choice.

Updates and external services

Sparkle connects to GitHub Releases to check for and download app updates. Choosing Report a Bug opens GitHub with app and system diagnostics, but never includes selected text, clipboard contents, or translation results.

Analytics and personal information

DichThat does not include analytics or advertising and does not intentionally collect personal information. Diagnostic bug reports contain app and system details, never selected text or clipboard contents.
